Choosing glass isn't just about appearance; it's also about safety!
For building facades, store windows, and home decor, choosing glass isn't a simple matter. Tempered glass is increasingly popular due to its safety and durability, but many people don't know how to distinguish it from regular glass. Here are a few simple and practical tips.
① Observe the light transmission:
Take a look at the glass from a different angle. Tempered glass undergoes high temperatures and then rapid cooling, creating a stress layer on its surface. This causes slight variations in light refraction, sometimes visible as ripples or halos. Regular glass, on the other hand, transmits light more evenly, appearing flatter.
② Sense the temperature difference:
In environments with large temperature fluctuations, tempered glass reacts less noticeably to temperature changes and doesn't feel as sharp or as quickly as regular glass. This is because it has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and more stable insulation properties.
③ Observe the edges and corners:
The edges of tempered glass are polished, making them smoother and more rounded, making them less scratch-resistant. Ordinary glass may have sharp, straight edges, and may even have rough edges if not treated.
④ Tap and Listen:
Gently tap the glass with your knuckle. Because of its compact internal structure, tempered glass typically makes a crisp, short sound; ordinary glass has a deeper, less resonant sound.

⑤ Look for markings:
The simplest and most direct method! Reputable tempered glass manufacturers will print "TEMPERED" or "Tempered" on the corners of the glass, and some may even include the manufacturer's logo. Ordinary glass generally does not have these markings.
⑥ Shattering Pattern (For information only, experimentation is not recommended):
If tempered glass does break, it will shatter into uniform, small, bean-shaped particles, rather than sharp, large fragments. Ordinary glass, when broken, will form large, sharp, blade-like pieces, which are more dangerous.
By observing six factors: light transmittance, temperature sensitivity, edges, sound, markings, and shattering pattern, you can generally determine whether it is tempered glass. Choosing the right glass is not only aesthetically pleasing but also safer.
Being able to discern is one thing, but choosing reliable tempered glass is crucial. So, what kind of manufacturer is trustworthy? Here, we'd like to introduce our strengths and advantages in tempered glass production.
Our company boasts significant advantages in tempered glass production. With production capacity for large-format glass up to 2440 x 5000 mm, we can meet the demands for large-format glass in architectural curtain walls, commercial facades, exhibition halls, and other applications. We can also process smaller sizes down to 300 x 300 mm, suitable for a variety of applications, including home decoration, furniture, and display cabinets. We offer both high-volume and customized production.
Our products cover a full range of thicknesses from 4 mm to 19 mm, suitable for doors, windows, guardrails, floor glass, and laminated glass. Furthermore, our company is equipped with the world's most advanced Soos dual-chamber convection tempering furnace, which provides uniform heating, high flatness, and minimal optical distortion, effectively ensuring the safety and visual quality of the glass.
All tempered glass is manufactured in strict accordance with the national standard GB 15763.2-2005, meeting or exceeding industry standards in terms of strength, flatness, grain size, and impact resistance. Every piece of glass leaves the factory reliably and safely. With its large-scale production capabilities, comprehensive thickness coverage, advanced production equipment, and rigorous quality control system, Shenyang Aulide provides high-quality tempered glass solutions for the architectural, home improvement, and industrial sectors, providing a solid foundation for our clients' projects.
